ARP

How it is used

Usually said as a word, 'arp'. Devices send ARP requests and keep the answers in an ARP table, also called the ARP cache. Engineers check the ARP table to see which IP address belongs to which MAC address. IPv6 uses a different mechanism, Neighbor Discovery, instead of ARP.
