Rigid body

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

nounAdvanced term

In software engineering, rigid body means: An object in the physics engine that keeps its shape and is moved by forces such as gravity and collisions, for example a falling crate or a thrown grenade.

In Turkish: katı cisim, rigidbody

How it is used

Unity's component for it is called Rigidbody, written as one word. Developers add a rigid body to an object, set its mass and drag, and decide whether it is kinematic (moved by code) or simulated. Soft bodies, such as cloth, bend and change shape.

Example sentences

  1. Add a rigid body to the barrel so it rolls when the player kicks it.

  2. Too many active rigid bodies in one room made the physics step very slow.
