Permission

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

/pərˈmɪʃən/nounCore term

In software engineering, permission means: The user's approval that an app needs before it can use sensitive features or data, such as the camera, location, contacts or notifications.

In Turkish: izin, erişim izni

How it is used

An app requests or asks for a permission, and the user grants or denies it. Both platforms ask at runtime, when the feature is first needed; iOS also requires a short text explaining why the app needs it. The timing and wording of the request affect how many users say yes.

Example sentences

  1. If the user denies camera permission, show a button that opens the Settings app.

  2. We ask for location permission only when the user opens the map.

Common collocations
