Congestion

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

/kənˈdʒestʃən/nounCommon term

In software engineering, congestion means: A situation in which more traffic is trying to cross a link or device than it can handle, so packets are queued or dropped and everything slows down.

In Turkish: tıkanıklık, ağ tıkanıklığı, yoğunluk

How it is used

Used in performance discussions, capacity planning and operator reports. Congestion builds up at peak hours, causes latency and packet loss, and is managed with QoS and capacity upgrades. Operators talk about evening congestion, when everyone is streaming video.
