BGP

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

/ˌbiː dʒiː ˈpiː/abbreviationAdvanced term

In software engineering, BGP means: Short for Border Gateway Protocol: the routing protocol that networks on the internet use to exchange routes with each other, so that traffic can find its way between different operators and companies.

In Turkish: Sınır Ağ Geçidi Protokolü, BGP

How it is used

Spelled out letter by letter. Engineers set up BGP sessions with ISPs, advertise prefixes, filter routes and watch for BGP sessions going down. Each network is identified by an autonomous system number (ASN). Mistakes in BGP can make large parts of the internet unreachable.
