Annotation

Meaning in software engineering, with examples

/ˌænəˈteɪʃən/nounCommon term

How it is used

Also used for the labels themselves ('the annotations are in a JSON file'). The people who do it are annotators; teams write annotation guidelines and measure how often annotators agree. Often used as a near synonym of labeling.

  2. We rewrote the annotation guidelines because annotators disagreed on a third of the examples.
