Subject, dilbilimde özne anlamına gelir.
Bir cümlecikte genellikle eylemi yapanı ya da hakkında bir şey söyleneni bildiren ve fiilin uyum gösterdiği öğe; örneğin 'My sister works here' cümlesindeki 'my sister'.
English: The part of a clause that usually names who or what does the action or is described, and that the verb agrees with, such as 'my sister' in 'My sister works here'.
Nerede ve nasıl kullanılır?
İngilizcede özne normalde fiilden önce gelir ve anlamca boş olsa bile atılamaz (It is raining. There is a problem.). Özne zamirleri I, you, he, she, it, we ve they'dir. Türkçede özne çoğu zaman düşer (Geliyorum.); bu yüzden Türk öğrenciler İngilizcede özneyi unutabilir. Ders anlamındaki subject ile karıştırmayın.
Örnek cümleler
In 'The results surprised everyone', the subject is 'the results'.
'The results surprised everyone' cümlesinin öznesi 'the results'tır.
Turkish lets you drop the subject, but English needs one: say 'It is cold', not 'Is cold'.
Türkçe öznenin düşmesine izin verir ama İngilizce bir özne ister: 'Is cold' değil 'It is cold' deyin.
