Cümle yapısında tek bir birim olarak işlev gören sözcük ya da sözcük grubu; örneğin bir ad öbeği ya da bir edat öbeği.
English: A word or group of words that functions as a single unit in the structure of a sentence, such as a noun phrase or a prepositional phrase.
Nerede ve nasıl kullanılır?
Sözdiziminin temel terimlerindendir. Dilbilimciler bir sözcük grubunun kurucu olup olmadığını anlamak için onu bir zamirle değiştirmek ya da yerini değiştirmek gibi kuruculuk sınamaları (constituency tests) kullanır. Siyasette aynı sözcük bir bölgedeki seçmen anlamına gelir.
